Roles of 4-H Officers & Committees
Officers
President :
4-H Club Committees
Program Committee: Chairman will be the first vice-president and will need to have 2-3 other members.
Purpose: to suggest and plan speakers or activities for our meetings. This group will be in charge of contacting and inviting guest speakers, welcoming the speaker to the meeting, introducing the speaker at the meeting, being sure the speaker has everything needed before the meeting.
Recreation/Social Committee: Chairman will be the second vice-president and will need to have 2-3 other members.
Purpose: to plan and prepare mixer activities for the meetings, any parties or social events.
Membership Committee: Chairman will be the third vice president and will need to have 2-3 other members.
Purpose: to maintain a membership record. (possibly an online data base with pictures of members with families) To welcome members and visitors at the door at each meeting. To encourage club unity and spirit.
Community Service Committee: Chairman will be the Parliamentarian and will need to have 3-4 other members.
Purpose: to plan and execute a club wide community service project for the year.
Queen's Contestant
The Queen's Contestant for Lookout 4-H will be a volunteer. If more than one volunteer comes forward, the contestant will be determined by popular vote. The Queen's Contestant will coordinate fund raising efforts throughout the 4-H year as outlined in the contest rules.
Purpose:
President :
- lead all meetings of the club, enforce the bylaws and exercise supervision over the business of the club;
- appoint standing and special committees;
- serve as a member of each committee, except the nominating committee;
- serve as delegate of the club to the County 4-H Council;
- assist the president;
- perform the duties of the president in the absence of that officer;
- serve as chairman of the program committee;
- help plan all club educational programs for the upcoming year;
- assist the president;
- perform the duties of the president in the absence of the president and first vice-president;
- serve as chairman of the recreation/social committee;
- help plan recreation and/or refreshments for each club meeting and plan special social events of the club;
- assist the president;
- perform the duties of the president in the absence of that officer, the first vice-president and the second vice-president;
- serve as chairman of the membership committee;
- help enroll members into the club and be in charge of promotion and recruitment of new members;
- serve as delegate to the County 4-H Council.
- keep the club informed of county 4-H activities by giving a report at each meeting and help with the coordination of local and county activities.
- encourage all 4-H members to become involved in county 4-H activities.
- keep a full and correct record of all proceedings of the club;
- be responsible for club correspondence;
- keep the roll and read the minutes at each meeting.
- post minutes to the club website.
- help prepare a budget for approval by the club.
- receive, hold and pay out all monies of the club according to the adopted budget. Any expenses not included in the budget must be approved by the executive committee.
- keep an accurate record of the incomes and expenses of the club;
- present a financial statement when requested to do so.
- serve as chairman of the finance committee.
- report activities of the club to local news media.
- report activities to the county Extension agent and/or in the county 4-H newsletter.
- possibly maintain an online blog with pictures*
- provide advice to the presiding officer on parliamentary procedure.
- instruct members in correct parliamentary procedure.
- serve as chairman of the Community Service Committee.

Purpose:
- For the Queen Candidate to promote and advertise the Cherokee County Junior Livestock Show and relate the value that it has in providing positive youth development experiences for the children of Cherokee County.
- In an effort to do that, the Queen Candidate will need to exhibit some Leadership and Public Relations Skills as well as Personal Qualities conducive to representing the Cherokee County Junior Livestock Show.
- Queen Candidates will also assist their Club or Chapter with the Club or Chapter of the Year Contest that functions as the Show Barn fund raising project.
